Stop Living Small

God didn't SAVE you to TAME you. Nor does He reveal Himself in the ocean, sky, and mountains to put a limit on you. WAKE UP and realize that God has a much greater plan for your life and it begins the day you stop living small. --Lisa Bevere, Lioness Arising

That's my wife Helen in the photo above, crossing the Pyrenees Mountains, and I often think I don't deserve her. I am grateful that she decided to start living the BIG life that God has for his children. When we set out ten years ago to walk this ancient pilgrim trail called the Camino de Santiago, I was way out of my comfort zone. My training and career was as a consulting engineer, and I joke that it is my nature to be "a belt AND suspenders kind of guy." I typically feel much better having all my ducks in a row and have provisions for every contingency before starting out to do something.

We have just completed our third Pyrenees crossing, and I am more amazed and thankful for these experiences than I can adequately describe. Being in the presence of God and trusting him for the basics of life on the trail has taught me how much he does care for us and love us, loves ME. Walking beside Helen and watching him give her strength to accomplish what he called her to do, called us to do, has grown my love for her and my faith in him.

Trusting him in the other parts of my life looks a whole lot better than it ever has.

Wick and Helen Van Wagenen had their first Camino experience in 2007, and God has used every part of it to shape their lives since. They have had opportunities to make many more trips to research routes, test gear, and volunteer along The Way. They continue making new trips, and like helping others make the trip of a lifetime.
