Favorite Camino Water System
We love meeting up with returning pilgrims to swap stories and learn about new gear, especially pilgrims we have helped outfit for their Camino trips. That is exactly how we first heard about the Source Convertube Water System. If you have read about our suggestions for staying hydrated on the Camino in our Guidebook, you will know that after trying some of the best known water bladder systems and other hiker bottles, we prefer to carry one or two 20 ounce recyclable soda/water bottles, that we replace every couple of days. This is still our favorite way to carry water on the Camino because it is lightweight, and it is very difficult to wash bottles and bladders clean enough to think you are safe using the same container for the weeks you will be on the Camino.
Our friend/client Lindsey returned from her Camino last summer recommending a water delivery system she had discovered from German Camino companions. (German pilgrims have some great gear, right?) She liked our recommendation for the recyclable bottles, but struggled to take the bottle in and out of her pack's outside bottle pocket. Because it was a bit of a struggle, she wasn't drinking enough, and she was suffering some of the effects of dehydration. When she added the Source Convertube system to her bottle, she had easy access to her water and her headaches and other suffering went away. After trying it out, we agree with her that it enhances your ability to easily take in as much water as you need with the convenience of an "over-the-shoulder" tube.
At a recent Camino gear show-and-tell the Source Convertube Water Kit garnered more interest from returning pilgrims than any other item, and we have heard from some who purchased it they are very happy with it.
As always, we only feature items on our website and in our online store that we have Camino-tested and can recommend. We hope these reviews will serve those gearing up for the Camino by preparing you for what lies ahead in hopes that you will be able to plan and complete your trip. We want to save you time and money with our recommendations, and by offering these items through links from our website store to Amazon. You do not pay any more for the items, and Amazon thanks us with a little commission. This money allows us to keep our site going, and to help pilgrims through donations to non-profit groups serving along the Camino.
If you have helpful questions or comments about this item or other gear, we would love to hear from you in the Comments below.
